The Edison Awards presented Dow with a Gold Award in the Protection & Safety category for Polyox Water-Soluble Polymers. Polyox, which is a Dow “Breakthrough to a World Challenge,” was recognized for its broad global impact on health and hygiene. The Edison Awards judging committee, comprised of more than 3,000 leading business executives in the product development, design, engineering, science and medical fields, recognized Dow Polyox technology for bringing distinct performance and sensorial benefits to Unilever's Lifebuoy soap, providing a longer-lasting hygienic product for better value in economically challenged regions.
“Our collaboration with Unilever enabled us to equip more people with the first defense against many illnesses: hand washing,” says Ralf Brinkmann, business president, Dow Consumer Care.
After a range of tests, Dow scientists delivered technology to develop a new formulation constructed of non-ionic polymers with a high-molecular weight, bringing valuable technical characteristics, such as lubricity, binding, water retention, thickening and film formation.
“Hand washing is one of the most critical steps in combating preventable diseases and maintaining health, but for millions around the world it’s considered a luxury. Our technology in Lifebuoy soap is helping change that,” notes Chad Holzer, global business director, Dow Home, Institutional and Personal Care Solutions.
