Gila Bend plant is recognized by Arizona Manufacturers Council.

Calgon Carbon Corporation announced it received the 2014 Excellence in Sustainability Award for its Gila Bend, Ariz., plant from the Arizona Manufacturers Council (AMC) during the AMC’s annual Manufacturer of the Year Summit & Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.

The newly constructed Gila Bend plant began operation in early 2013 and currently employs 14 people. The plant is Calgon Carbon’s most modern and energy efficient facility to recycle or “reactivate” granular activated carbon (GAC), which is used in drinking water applications. The company expects the potential for job growth over the next three years.

"We are proud to recognize Calgon Carbon for fulfilling its promise of not only bringing innovation and jobs to the region, but also for its commitment to help provide safe, cost-effective drinking water to the region,” said Steve Macias, Chairman, Arizona Manufacturers Council. “The Gila Bend plant is a key enabler for the effective implementation of public policies that address the availability of safe drinking water, as well as regional growth and economic prosperity.”

The facility was designed and built exclusively to provide “custom” reactivation of GAC. Custom reactivation means GAC used by one customer is processed separately from the GAC of all other customers and subsequently returned to the originating customer.
