Swagelok Offers Analytical Instrumentation Training

Sept. 14, 2009

Swagelok Co. is offering live, interactive analytical instrumentation training courses. The training is divided into two sessions: “Troubleshooting Sampling Systems” and “Principles of Sampling System Design.” The material is appropriate for basic training or as a knowledge refresher for experienced technicians and engineers. Attendees will have an opportunity to build an effective sample system, applying the theories learned during the training. The sessions are given in series and will be offered Oct. 19-23 in Chicago.

Each session is team-taught by two instructors: Doug Nordstrom, analytical instrumentation market manager, Swagelok; and Tony Waters, an industry expert and consultant to the field. Nordstrom focuses his efforts on advancing Swagelok’s involvement in sample handling systems. Waters has 50 years of experience with sampling systems and is an expert in the application of process analyzers in refineries and chemical plants.

Session One, “Troubleshooting Sampling Systems” is a two-day program (Oct. 19 -20) aimed at basic performance criteria and difficulties. It is a prerequisite for Session Two. The course covers issues of compatibility, time delay, and representation; how to diagnose sample transport problems; and improve sample conditioning.

Session Two, “Principles of Sampling System Design,” combines hands-on experience with lectures and demonstrations over a two-and-a-half day period (Oct. 21-23). At the end of the course, students should be able to identify sample tap and probe design issues, calculate the required flow rate, know when and how to condense or vaporize a sample, and how to configure an effective conditioning system.

Registration for the courses is available through your Swagelok authorized sales and service center. The registration fees include lunch each day and course materials. There is a maximum class size of 40 to ensure time for interaction. For companies wishing to train a large number of employees at once, Swagelok will bring both training sessions on site.
