The Petro Nova plant reportedly captures an amount of CO2 every year equivalent to taking 350,000 cars off the road.

In lieu of a traditional ribbon cutting, NRG’s Petro Nova carbon capture facility opened its valves on Thursday, April 13 to mark its official launch in Richmond, Texas. It is the world’s largest carbon capture facility, according to an article from Click2Houston, capturing CO2 annually in an amount equivalent to taking 350,000 cars off the road.

Petra Nova captures a ton of CO2 every 17 seconds says NRG President and CEO Mauricio Gutierrez. Guitierrez was joined at the facility’s opening by U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and Governor of Texas Greg Abbott, according to the article.
