Featuring turbomachinery control (TMC) algorithms from Continuous Control Solutions (CCS) running on HIMax safety controllers from HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH + Co KG, the CCS-HIMA turbomachinery solution provides a full range of control applications for operators of rotating equipment in the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, metallurgy and power generation industries.
Fully compatible with all major distributed control systems (DCS) and other HIMA safety instrumented systems, the new TMC solution helps operators to minimize process disturbances; prevent surge, overspeed and associated damage; automate start-up and shutdown; and minimize recycle or blow-off, according to HIMA. The solution also facilitates load sharing and load balancing for multiple process trains, running in series or parallel.
The CCS-HIMA turbomachinery solution features multiple levels of defense against compressor surge. The dual-loop surge prevention controller (SPC) uses two PID loops (dP and Rc) to simultaneously monitor the distance to surge from any given operating point of a compressor. If either measurement becomes unavailable, the SPC will automatically and seamlessly switch to the available control loop. The solution also offers proportional tuning and dynamic safety control to predict possible surge conditions and act to prevent them from occurring.
