The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) will recognize 14 chemical engineering leaders and innovators with awards at the 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida (Nov. 5–10). The ceremony on Nov. 5 will honor Dr. Warren D. Seider, a distinguished professor at the University of Pennsylvania, with the prestigious Founders Award. Seider's six-decade contributions in research and education, notably in process modeling, simulation, synthesis, optimization, and control, are highlighted. His influential textbooks and 175 journal articles, along with his role in advancing computing in engineering education, are acknowledged. A former AIChE director, Seider has received numerous honors in his field.

Dr. Phillip R. Westmoreland, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University, will receive the F. J. and Dorothy Van Antwerpen Award for Service to AIChE. The award is sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company.
Dr. Sujit Datta, Associate Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University, will receive the Allan P. Colburn Award for Excellence in Publications by a Young Member of the Institute. The award is sponsored by DuPont.
Dr. Zhen-Gang Wang, the Dick and Barbara Dickinson Professor of Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, will receive the Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research. Dr. Hal S. Alper, the Kenneth A. Kobe Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, will receive the Andreas Acrivos Award for Professional Progress in Chemical Engineering. The award is endowed by The AIChE Foundation.
