Amyris Inc. has resumed industrial production at its Brotas, Brazil, refinery following a planned maintenance period, the company said April 16.
"As expected, our Brotas biorefinery has started up well following our planned upgrades and, thanks to our experienced team, is delivering similar operational performance to what we experienced in our quality runs in late 2013, said John Melo, Amyris president and CEO. “We remain on track with our 2014 business plan and look forward to producing our first fragrance oil, patchouli, later this year at Brotas."
In December 2013, the company announced it would take advantage of the inter-harvest sugarcane season to make improvements to the Brotas plant for 2014 production of patchouli in addition to Biofene, Amyris' brand of renewable farnesene.
The plant improvements were completed on time and under budget prior to the start of the sugarcane harvest season. The Brotas plant has resumed production of farnesene and is operating as planned.
