AIChE Honors Stuart L. Cooper With Founders Award

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) presented the Founders Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Chemical Engineering, to Stuart L. Cooper, professor and chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The Ohio State University.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) recently presented its highest award, the Founders Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Chemical Engineering, to Stuart L. Cooper, professor and chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The Ohio State University. The award is supported by Evonik Corporation and is given annually to an engineer whose work has had a profound impact on the chemical engineering field.

Cooper, an expert in polymers and their applications, is recognized for his development of polyurethane materials for use in biomedical applications. He has made important contributions to education and was instrumental in establishing new departments of biomaterials and biomedical engineering at the University of Delaware, Illinois Institute of Technology and North Carolina State University. He has served as chemical engineering department chair at the University of Wisconsin and The Ohio State University. He has documented his research in more than 350 articles and eight books, and he is co-founder and co-editor of the Journal of Biomaterials Science – Polymer Edition. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2011.
