The UK’s New Model in Technology & Engineering (NMiTE) offers the “world’s most radical engineering degree curriculum,” according to an article from The Chemical Engineer, and the school is inviting engineers, students, academics and employers to weigh in on the program before the school officially opens in September 2019. NMiTE is reportedly the UK’s first new “greenfield” university in 40 years.
According to the article, the curriculum features a 46-week academic schedule for a master’s degree in “liberal” engineering with subjects such as finance, economics, marketing, politics and computing rounding out a science and mathematics offering. NMiTE’s lack of lectures is the most striking difference from more traditional universities. A typical week will include 20 hours of student-led project work and 15 hours of self-study, according to the article. The new model is reportedly designed to address the UK’s shortage of graduate engineers.
