Air Force Plans More PFAS Testing At Former Base In Maine

Investigators are concerned contamination may have spread.
Investigators will take another look at the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine, fearing chemical contamination at the closed site may have spread, according to an article from U.S. News & World Report. The Air Force reportedly plans to test 20 areas at the site for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), so-called “forever chemicals."
According to the article, sampling for contamination from firefighting foam used on Loring’s runway began in May and will include at least 1,300 total samples of groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment and fish throughout fall. To date, there reportedly have been no findings of PFAS in drinking water supplies.
