Texas Files Lawsuit Against Shell for Petrochemical Plant Fire

The state of Texas filed a lawsuit on Aug. 7 against Shell for air and water contamination violations related to a fire at its Deer Park petrochemical plant, the Associated Press reports.

The state is seeking more than $1 million, according to the AP report.

The May 5 fire resulted in injuries to nine workers who were later treated and released from the hospital.

The lawsuit, filed Travis County by the Texas attorney general's office, alleges Clean Air Act, Solid Waste Disposal Act and Water Code violations, according to the AP.

A Shell spokesperson told the AP that the company does not comment on pending litigation.
