Lyondell Basell to Supply Renewable-Based Polymers for Catheters

April 25, 2023
Company will help partner Wellspect HealthCare meet sustainability goals.

Lyondell Basell will supply its Circulen Renew renewable-based polymers to Wellspect HealthCare for use in female urinary catheters.

Wellspect HealthCare, a Swedish medical device company, will use the polymers in its LoFric Elle line, said Lyondell Basell on April 24.

Circulen Renew meets the ISCC PLUS global sustainability standard, according to Lyondell Basell.

“At LyondellBasell, we want to support our customers in their sustainability ambitions. Our Circulen product family helps to make this possible. Our Circulen Renew polymers are sourced from renewable-based material, such as used cooking oil, that we get from our supplier Neste”, says Mathieu Lecomte, marketing manager at Lyondell Basell.

The renewable-based polymer has the same properties as products sourced from fossil-based materials, making it suitable for medical-device applications, Lecomte says.

“This was an important aspect for our customer Wellspect HealthCare, who has the ambition to become a sustainability leader in its industry,” Lecomte adds.

By 2030, Lyondell Basell aims to produce and market at least 2 million metric tons of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually.
