A 10-year plan issued by the Australian Academy of Science is designed to improve all facets of chemistry across Australia, according to an article at ChemistryWorld. The plan specifically emphasizes improving collaboration across the chemistry community, particularly between academic research chemists and industry.

While scientific publication quality and patenting rates are comparable to other leading countries, says one of the plan authors quoted in the article, chemistry remains an “underperforming science” that hasn’t efficiently translated into new jobs, companies and products in Australia. The plan lists five strategic goals over the next decade, according to the article: raise chemistry knowledge and skills, improve capabilities of the research sector, raise the level of research and innovation efficiency, improve the image of chemistry and implementation of the decadal plan.
