Lubrizol’s Chemtool Faces Class Action Lawsuits After Explosion, Fire

An explosion that rained debris down on surrounding neighborhoods and sparked a massive industrial fire is now the focus of multiple lawsuits. The June 18 blast and subsequent fire at a Rockton, Illinois-based Chemtool plant forced residents in a one-mile radius of the plant to evacuate, according to an article from the Rockford Register Star. Chemtool manufactures lubricating greases.

One lawsuit reportedly accuses Chemtool and its parent company Lubrizol Corp. of negligence for failing to prevent the explosion. Chemtool and Lubrizol won't comment on pending litigation but say though a spokesperson that they are doing what they can to support and reimburse affected residents, according to the Register Star.
