EFCE Honors Modeling Work

Sept. 20, 2021
Researcher explored particle formation processes
The European Federation of Chemical Engineering has bestowed its 2021 Excellence Award in Product Design and Engineering to Christian Rieck for his PhD thesis “Microscopic and macroscopic modeling of particle formation processes in spray fluidized beds” done while at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany.

His thesis centered on the development of process models for coating and layering granulation as well as agglomeration of amorphous particles with relevance to industrial applications such as ones in pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. It focused on tracking the border of the agglomeration process applied for of binder-less spray fluidized bed agglomeration of related amorphous particles.

The award was presented on September 20th at the Symposium on Future Directions in Product Design and Engineering.

Rieck now works for Glatt Engineering, Weimar, Germany.
