March 14, 2022
The state wants the companies pay to further investigate, clean up and monitor contamination at any site where PFAS was used, spilled, stored or disposed of.

Fifteen companies are named in a suit filed by Colorado Attorney General (AG) Phil Weiser over the use of “forever chemicals” in the manufacture of firefighting foam. The state contends the forever chemicals – polyfluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – have been found in water sources and soil across the state, according to an article from The Denver Channel. PFAS are linked to cancer, birth defects and other illnesses.

The lawsuit reportedly claims that PFAS have been found in soil, surface and ground water in 50 Colorado counties, near Peterson and Buckley Air Force bases, Fort Carson, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Suncor plant, at Colorado’s federal airports and close to fire districts in Teller and Boulder counties. According to The Denver Channel, companies named as defendants in the lawsuit include E. I. Du Pont De Nemours and Company; The Chemours Company; The Chemours Company FC, LLC; DowDuPont, Inc.; Corteva, Inc.; Dupont De Nemours, Inc.; and Tyco Fire Products, LP.
