NASA honors Flowserve

Feb. 20, 2006

NASA has awarded Flowserve Corp., a global provider of fluid motion and control products and services, a certificate of appreciation for custom-engineering new valves for the agency's Johnson, Marshall and Stennis Space Centers.

Flowserve's innovative work for NASA includes the design and manufacture of cryogenic split-body control valves whose construction and metallurgy avoid the leakage characteristic of conventional split-bodies. The new designs allow NASA to use one Flowserve valve in place of several competitive valves because they also feature replaceable trims. Flowserve previously supplied NASA with a variety of other innovative valve designs.

NASA presented Flowserve with the award at the company's Springville, Utah manufacturing facility November 15 in front of all 350 of the plant's employees. Craig Ellsworth, Springville operations manager, Flowserve Flow Control, accepted the award on behalf of Flowserve.

"Thank you all for the very important work you do for NASA, and know that we will need you as we move forward with our space exploration program," said Chuck Holloway, 38-year veteran of NASA, in presenting the award. Holloway, now a senior engineer with the aerospace engineering firm Dynacs, is a consulting engineer with NASA's Supplier Outreach and Process Control Assurance (SOPCA) program, which gave the honor to Flowserve.

"Keep doing the good job you are doing," added Holloway. "Your hard work is invaluable to NASA."

"Flowserve is committed to providing NASA with the high-end technology it needs to cost-effectively and safely manage its space exploration efforts," says Flowserve's Ellsworth. "Flowserve's quality design, engineering and manufacturing processes guarantee every Flowserve customer exceedingly consistent product quality. Our experienced and talented associates take pride in assuring that our control valves and full line of fluid motion and control products meet the tough requirements of NASA and all our other valued customers."

"This award reinforces our collaborative efforts to work with customers like NASA to solve their complex problems," says Kyle B. Ahlfinger, vice president, marketing, Flowserve Flow Control. "Flowserve works every day to make our customers' lives easier, whether it is for mission-critical projects for NASA or any other customer organization around the world. Complex engineering, even rocket science, is all in a day's work at Flowserve."
