Hydraulic Institute Announces 2012 Mechanical Seals Webinar Series

Four-part series features industry experts in a non-commercial, educational forum.

The Hydraulic Institute (HI), in collaboration with the Fluid Sealing Association (FSA), has announced the launch of the 2012 Mechanical Seals Webinar Series, beginning March 29. Offering participants a chance to earn up to four professional development hours (PDH), the webinar series features industry experts in a non-commercial educational forum.

On March 29, Eric Vanhie of EagleBurgmann will present the first webinar titled “Mechanical Seals - Types and Operating Principles.” Vanhie will explain how a mechanical seal works and give an overview of the most common seal types. The objective is to give students an understanding of how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different seal types are used in pumps, agitators and compressors.

On April 12, Mike Huebner of Flowserve will present the second webinar, titled “Mechanical Seals Construction and Design.” In addition to covering different design features used in common seals, Huebner will explain the strengths and weaknesses of various design options and impact of design features on seal performance. He will also discuss seal faces, springs, and seal glands.

On April 26, Eric Boyce of John Crane will present the third webinar, titled “Mechanical Seals - Installation, Connections — Commissioning.” Boyce will cover mechanical seals used in rotary equipment, basic preparation and standards as well as support system piping plans promoting longer seal life.

On May 11, Henri Azibert of A.W. Chesterton Company will present the fourth and final webinar in the series, titled “Mechanical Seals - Seal Environment and Failure Analysis.” Azibert will cover how to improve material selection, installation and operating procedures, environmental controls, and seal design.

Those interested in the 2012 Mechanical Seals Webinar Series can register for the entire series or for individual sessions. Registration for the series is $295, while individual sessions are $100 each. A free supplemental webinar on sealing systems energy efficiency also will be held on March 15.
