Siemens, Fraunhofer Join Global Impact Coalition
Technology company Siemens and Fraunhofer Chemistry Alliance have joined the Global Impact Coalition (GIC), expanding the group’s technology and research capabilities for emissions reduction and circularity projects across the chemical value chain.
Siemens joined the coalition as a member in April, while Fraunhofer joined in early March as an associate member. According to GIC, the additions strengthen its network of industry, research and technology partners focused on developing commercially viable sustainability solutions.
GIC said Siemens will contribute expertise in industrial AI, automation and digital twin technologies to help optimize operations, reduce emissions and enable real-time monitoring. The company is expected to participate in projects including GIC’s Automotive Plastics Circularity initiative, which is focused on improving material recovery and reducing lifecycle emissions.
Fraunhofer brings research capabilities from its network of 16 institutes and will support the coalition’s efforts to develop scalable technologies and business models for a low-carbon and circular chemical sector, according to GIC.
The coalition has continued to add members in recent months as it expands its project portfolio. In December 2025, Henkel Adhesive Technologies joined GIC to strengthen downstream connections between chemical producers and end-use markets. In January 2025, LG Chem became the first Korean company to join the coalition, with plans to collaborate on sustainable methanol, plastics recycling and AI-enabled value chain initiatives.
GIC was incubated at the World Economic Forum and includes members such as BASF, SABIC, Clariant, Covestro, LyondellBasell, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Syensqo and SUEZ.
