Process-Simplification Guru Advocates For Digitized Data

Nov. 16, 2016

The editorial team at Chemical Processing relies on experts to help us bring award-winning content to our readers. These experts serve on our editorial board, contribute articles and fill out the roster of our Ask The Experts section of our website. In addition to all they do for Chemical Processing, they also find time to do their own things.

One of our experts in the field of Process Simplification, Girish Malhotra, writes a blog called Profitability through Simplicity. His latest post notes that he strongly believes that the chemical industry will benefit significantly from digitization.

According to Malhotra -- a PE and president of EPCOT International -- until the Internet came along essentially every supplier company shared physical and chemical properties of raw materials. As the Internet developed, companies stopped sharing.

He now advocates for digitized data saying it “would assist chemists and chemical engineers to develop and commercialize processes that will have comparatively higher process yield and productivity. Processes would be economic and more sustainable than the current processes. Pharmaceutical could become affordable. Global healthcare costs could be lowered.”

You can read his entire post here.

Traci Purdum is Chemical Processing's senior digital editor. She may not always have the answers but she thanks her lucky stars that she can tap the expertise of many gurus including Malhotra. You can email her at [email protected].
