Zontec brings computing mobility to quality departments

Zontec Inc. introduced Synergy 200, a mobile statistical process control (SPC) system that allows members of the Quality Department to move freely about their production facility while performing real-time SPC on a wireless ultraportable PC.

The Synergy 200 bundle includes a handheld PC that's approximately the size of a paperback book and comes preloaded with a complete set of quality assurance tools for data collection, charting, process monitoring, data analysis and reporting. The Synergy 200 SPC software gives users instant feedback about manufacturing processes so that corrective action and confident production decisions can be made on the spot.

At just 1.7 lbs., the compact Windows XP PC eliminates the bulk of a notebook PC or the limited functionality of a Personal Data Assistant (PDA) and the data synchronization issues that go along with PDAs. Its 7-in WVGA touchscreen is a high-resolution display of Zontec's interactive SPC graphics and status alarms.

Gages and measurement devices can be connected to the unit via the USB ports for automated data collection. It is equipped with an Intel Celeron processor rated at 900 MHz, a 40GB hard drive and 512MB of memory. The computer features the latest communication technologies with 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet, 802.11b/g wireless connectivity and Bluetooth v2.0. A twin-array microphone allows the users to make phone calls over the Internet using VOIP.

When not performing SPC, users have full access to the Internet, e-mail and other Windows applications. The Synergy 200 bundle represents a complete computing package in a slim mobile design. Synergy 200 is priced at $1,695.
