SOCMA And DHS Announce Security Summit

July 5, 2016
The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates and the Department of Homeland Security will hold 10th Annual Chemical Sector Security Summit.

The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates and the Department of Homeland Security hold their 10th Annual Chemical Sector Security Summit, July 19-21 at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will give the keynote address.

Mayorkas has served as Deputy Secretary of DHS since December 2013. Prior to that, he served as Director of the department's United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency charged with operating the largest immigration system in the world, according to SOCMA.

"In the chemical industry, the safety and security of our facilities is crucial to not only our employees but also the communities in which we live," says SOCMA President and CEO Lawrence D. Sloan. "Over the course of a decade, we've had the pleasure of working with the Department of Homeland Security to provide a forum where chemical industry professionals and local, state and federal officials can come together to exchange information, share best practices, learn more about chemical security regulations, and gain insight into the roles each play in chemical security.”

In celebration of the 10th anniversary, the summit will feature a commemorative video presentation, regulatory updates from key DHS officials on Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards and other issues impacting the sector, as well as sessions on cyber security, personnel surety, transportation, threats to the chemical sector and opportunities to network with high-level officials from DHS and other agencies.

There is no fee to attend the summit, but all participants are required to register.
