Arkema Signs Solar Power Agreement with EDF Renewables

Company expects to meet 70% of power needs at eight plants using solar power.

Specialty materials manufacturer Arkema said Dec. 11 it has signed a 20-year contract with EDF Renewables to supply 20 GWh a year of renewable electricity for its Bostik adhesives line. Beginning in 2026, EDF will supply eight Bostik plants with enough solar energy to cover 70% of its electricity requirements.

The partnership marks a significant step in Arkema’s carbon-reduction goals, stated Vincent Legros, executive vice president of Bostik.

Arkema is looking to to reduce its CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2030. 

Arkema has also committed to reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 54% by 2030. The company is working with suppliers on its scope 1 and 2 targets and downstream by developing more environmentally friend products.
