Loughborough University's Department of Chemical Engineering, led by Dr. Jonathan Wagner and Professor Eileen Yu, received the Sustainability Award at the 2023 IChemE Global Awards for their contributions to the UKRI National Centre for Circular Chemical Economy (CircularChem). The center, directed by Professor Jin Xuan at the University of Surrey, aims to transition the UK's chemical industry to a sustainable circular economy by fostering collaboration among academia, industry, government and the public. The award acknowledges their efforts in developing innovative technologies and collaborating across sectors to advance circular business models, reduce carbon emissions and eliminate fossil carbon use.
“The award recognizes our extensive work in developing new enabling technologies, whole system analysis and working with stakeholders from policy, business and third sector to identify pathways toward accelerating change,” noted Wagner in a release on the Loughborough University website.
