The Fieldbus Foundation, Austin, Texas, launched its first fund-raising drive in support of the James O. Gray - Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship. The foundation awards up to $1,000 per year to each recipient seeking a career in the field of instrumentation, automation and systems technology.
The James O. Gray Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund honors James O. Gray, a long-time Fieldbus Foundation supporter who died in 2002. Gray was active in the foundation from its inception, holding positions with its board of directors, executive committee and U.S. marketing committee.
Five educational institutions are participating in the program and representatives from each school choose the recipients. They include: Lee College, Baytown, Texas; Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Calgary, Alberta; Shipping and Transport College, Brielle, Netherlands; Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore; and Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan.
Donations to the scholarship fund endowment are invested on a permanent basis, with the interest and dividends providing the annual scholarships for deserving students. The program provided three scholarships during the 2003-2004 school year; more scholarships will be awarded in 2004-2005. The number of scholarships will increase as the endowment fund grows.
