Study On Plant Turnarounds And Shutdowns Examines Industry Best Practices

McLaren Software sponsors report on how optimized scheduling can help turnaround projects.
Aug. 10, 2011

A new study by T.A. Cook concludes the opportunity costs of operators in process industries resulting from a shutdown often exceed the labor and material costs incurred, study sponsor McLaren Software said Aug. 9.

Accurate and validated documentation improves predictability during the planning stage and reduces the risk of unexpected corrective work resulting in longer shutdowns, according to the study. To ensure a smooth start-up and subsequent operation of the plant, new documentation will need to be validated ready for use by the operations teams, McLaren reports.

The study addresses scheduling issues in turnaround projects and to show decision makers the potential optimized scheduling can have on influencing the success of a turnaround project.
