U.S. petrochemical industry’s greatest growth challenge related to shale gas development is a lack of skilled workers to build, operate and maintain planned chemical projects, said Peter Cella, president and CEO of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co.
Cella made his remarks during a workforce development panel discussion at the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers’ International Petrochemical Conference in San Antonio, Texas, the Cypress Creek Mirror reported.
The industry needs nearly 90,000 craft workers in 2015 to support chemical and other related projects along the U.S. Gulf Coast. One of these projects is a Chevron Phillips project along the Gulf Coast, which is expected to create 400 long-term jobs and 10,000 construction and engineering jobs.
