The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy welcomed 11 of the more than 2,500 Kid Science Advisors to a meeting on Friday, October 28 to discuss their ideas with Dr. John Holdren, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, National Science Foundation Director France Córdova and former astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly. In the weeks following April’s 2016 Science Fair, the White House launched the Kids Science Advisor campaign and children across the country submitted more than 2,500 ideas about science and STEM education, according to an article from the White House.
According to the White House, Holdren and U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith hosted a conference call open to all students who submitted suggestions and ideas about a week prior to the in-person visit. Kid Science Advisor attendees to the White House included Logan Beatty, 14, Land O’Lakes, Fla.; Sage Foreman, 12, Goodyear, Ariz.; Anahi Gandara-Rodriguez, 15, Denver, Colo.; Tylar Hedrick, 14, Nampa, Idaho; Alexis Leggette, 5, Baltimore, Md.; Jacob Leggette, 9, Baltimore, Md.; Jamie Milota, 17, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Alex Poret, 16, Sparta, N.J.; Alana Rieg, 14, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Khristian Ward, 10, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.; and Penh Zhou, 17, Cleveland, Ohio.
