British Prime Minister Theresa May has committed to investing an additional £2bn a year in science research and development by 2020, according to an article from BBC. The money is earmarked for areas where the UK reportedly excels, such as robotics, artificial intelligence and biotech.
According to the article, a freeze on science spending since 2010 has gradually eroded the science budget at a time when other countries have increased their investment in research. May also announced the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund aimed at creating more commercial success for scientific developments and tax breaks to encourage more corporate support for research.
