Arkema Executes Controlled Burn

According to Arkema’s website, the company ignited and burned six trailers containing highly flammable materials at its Crosby, Texas, site on Sept 3. The controlled burn allowed crews to assess the area. The facility has been shut down since Aug. 25 due to Hurricane Harvey.

The actions taken made it possible to neutralize the remaining trailer tanks containing the organic peroxides that could no longer be stored safely after Hurricane Harvey had made landfall in Texas, according to the company’s press release.

The Crosby Fire Department and unified command has determined it is safe for residents to return to their homes. The 1.5 mile evacuation zone around the Arkema facility has been lifted and is no longer in effect. Read about events that transpired earlier at the Arkema plant.
