In a marathon effort to make the material needed for personal protective equipment for health care workers, more than 40 employees spent 28 straight days at the Philadelphia-area Braskem America plant, according to an article from CNN. The plant manufactures the polypropylene used in N-95 masks, medical gowns and other protective gear.
According to the article, the live-in rotation was designed to protect the safety and health of the employees. The volunteer crews reportedly worked 12-hour shifts while away from their families and friends (who occasionally drove by honking horns and waving signs) and received increased wages. The plant also provided beds, groceries, internet access and iPads.
