Parents looking to help their kids learn from home during the pandemic can turn to STEM toys for help. Research shows that STEM toys actually do teach science, technology, engineering and math concepts, according to an article from Live Science. The key is picking the right ones.

According to the article, there is no minimum educational requirement for toys to be labeled as “STEM toys.” Experts suggest looking for toys that encourage open-ended, active play and problem solving. Some tried and true favorites include Tinkertoys, board games, decks of cards and classic building blocks. There is no expert consensus regarding technology as a teaching tool, according to the article, but the same rules apply to educational tech: toys should be active, engaging, meaningful, social and fun.
