Actor Mark Ruffalo Joins Lawmakers Introducing PFAS Legislation

April 20, 2021
The “Dark Waters” actor joins two Michigan legislators in introducing the PFAS Action Act.

Actor Mark Ruffalo produced and starred in the 2019 film “Dark Waters” (based on a true story) as a lawyer challenging a company that knowingly discharged perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) into the air and water. Now, the actor joins Michigan lawmakers Debbie Dingell (D) and Fred Upton (R) in introducing the PFAS Action Act, legislation designed to increase regulations on the chemicals, according to an article from The Hill.

“In this divided climate we’re in, water’s a good way for us to find common ground,” Ruffalo is quoted as saying. A similar bill passed in the House in 2020 but stalled in the Senate, according to The Hill. The lawmakers are hopeful a Democratic-controlled Senate and a supportive Biden administration will move the new measure forward.
