ACC’s Plastics Division Names Leadership Team

New leadership team reflects growing membership with greater focus on advocacy and sustainability.

The American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Plastics Division announces the 2022 leadership team for its operating committee (PDOC). Beginning in 2022, there will be three new leadership positions, as well as an updated operational structure that reflects a heightened focus on plastics’ sustainability and integration with the plastics value chain.

In 2021, ACC’s Plastics Division reportedly experienced significant membership growth among its membership categories, particularly with its 14 new value chain members. Additionally, with John Thayer of Nova Chemicals as the PDOC chair, the division intensely focused on new advocacy initiatives that promote plastics sustainability. This included the “5 Actions for Sustainable Change,” a new partnership with Oak Ridge National Lab to advance circular solutions for durable plastics in automobiles, and the “5 Principles to End Plastic Waste Globally.”

In 2022, current vice chair, Covestro’s Christine Bryant, will chair the PDOC and ExxonMobil Chemical’s Dave Andrew will become the vice chair. PDOC’s current chair, John Thayer, will fill the new position of immediate past chair. DuPont’s Randy Stone will become membership and finance committee chair. And Berry Global’s Tom Salmon will become the value chain committee chair, a new position that will serve as the lead voice of the Plastics Division’s growing value chain membership.

“The 2022 slate of company leaders has both seasoned representatives with proven track records of providing invaluable guidance to the Plastics Division, along with new representatives that will strengthen and align our advocacy efforts across the entire plastics value chain,” says Joshua Baca, ACC’s vice president of plastics. “I am confident these top caliber leaders will bolster the Division’s best-in-class advocacy to advance our most important goal in 2022 – a more sustainable and circular economy for plastics that contributes to a more sustainable world.”

This group of PDOC leaders will serve in their positions from Jan. 1, 2022 through Dec. 31, 2022.
