Scientific Publishers Suspend Commercial Relations With Russia

April 13, 2022
Fifteen scientific publishers come together to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In an open letter, more than a dozen scientific publishers unite to announce they are suspending sales and marketing of products and services to research organizations in Russia and Belarus, according to an article from ChemistryWorld. The action comes in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to the article, the statement from the publishers indicates that they are “joining other organizations globally that are acting to bring about an end to this aggression and to restore peace.”

Because their actions are aimed at research organizations – and not at Russian researchers – the publishers say they will still publish and distribute manuscripts from authors in Russia and Belarus. Among the 15 publishers signing onto the letter are Cambridge University Press, the American Chemical Society, Elsevier and Springer Nature.
