The Antwerp water plant will pump, desalinate and purify dock water for chemical companies Evonik and Covestro.
A new water plant planned for the Port of Antwerp will convert brackish dock water into high quality process water for chemical companies Evonik and Covestro, according to an article from WaterWorld. The plant is reportedly expected to save millions of liters of drinking water per year during the start-up phase. The new facility is expected to be operational in 2024.
According to the article, Evonik and Covestro will be the first chemical companies to participate in the infrastructure project, which may reduce the companies’ drinking water consumption by as much as 98%. The water plant will reportedly also feature technology to reuse used wastewater at a later stage.
