Italmatch Expands U.S. Footprint With Detrex

Dec. 19, 2017
Global specialty chemicals company Italmatch acquires Detrex Corporation.

Italmatch Chemicals, a global specialty chemical manufacturer of performance additives for industrial lubricants, water and process treatment, oil and gas, and plastics, acquires U.S.-based Detrex Corporation, producer of high performance lubricant additives for industrial applications and high purity hydrochloric acid, through its subsidiary The Elco Corporation. The acquisition reportedly aligns with the company’s focus on the American market and expanding its current product portfolio.

The transaction follows the company’s recent acquisition of Sudamfos do Brasil, a Brazilian distribution company specializing in the marketing of phosphonates, phosphates and other special chemical products, and last year’s acquisition of Compass Chemical International, maker of special additives for water and oil and gas treatment.

Italmatch says it operates through six manufacturing plants in Europe (Italy, Spain, Germany and UK), two in Asia Pacific (China and Japan), two in North America (USA) and sales/distribution subsidiaries in Brazil, Belgium, China, Japan, India, Poland, Singapore and the United States. It reportedly employs over 500 workers.
