Cornerstone Chemical Company, a manufacturer of key intermediate and specialty chemicals for high-value industrial and consumer applications, licenses a world-scale HCN production technology package from Chemours, which will significantly increase its on-site HCN production, according to the company. Cornerstone will conduct detailed engineering and design during the first half of 2018, expecting to reach a final investment plan during the third quarter of 2018 to build its HCN plant based on Chemours’ technology. Chemours will also provide project development support to Cornerstone.

Cornerstone has been producing HCN at its site in Waggaman, LA, dating back to the early 1950s. The new plant, which will benefit from fundamentally advantaged, low-cost U.S. shale gas, according to the company, will be the latest addition to Cornerstone’s site since the start-up of Dyno Nobel’s world-scale ammonia plant in 2016. Cornerstone expects the HCN plant to be operational in 2020.
