Spanish Researcher Wins Electrochemical Medal

May 14, 2014
The development of effective and economical treatment technologies for contaiminated wastewater clinched the prize.

The European Federation of Chemical Engineering, Frankfurt, Germany, has chosen Dr. Ignacio Sirés Sadornil as the latest winner of the Carl Wagner Medal of Excellence in Electrochemical Engineering. Dr. Sirés, a senior researcher and lecturer at the University of Barcelona, is being recognized for his work on the development of effective and economical treatment technologies for wastewater contaminated with dye, pesticide and pharmaceutical residues. These technologies rely on electrochemical advanced oxidation processes based on electro-Fenton reaction chemistry to degrade organic pollutants.

He will receive the award, which consists of a €1,250 (≈$1,710) cash prize and certificate, at the 10th European Symposium on Electrochemical Engineering, which will take place in Sardinia, Italy, Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, 2014.
