PEEK Resin Roller Bearings Offer Strong Chemical Resistance

Feb. 7, 2013
Roller bearing can be employed in high-heat environments.

Link Upon Advanced Material Corp. produces roller bearings made from KetaSpire polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin from Solvay Specialty Polymers. The PEEK resin provides strong chemical resistance, high heat deflection temperature, low creep and dimensional stability, according to Link Upon. Link Upon’s roller bearing is suitable for use in processing machinery for the food, medical, chemical and industrial markets.

The PEEK roller bearing is used in conjunction with ceramic balls to drive an automatic shaft. As the roller bearing rotates, it causes the ceramic balls to rotate as well with very little stiffness and minimal friction. KetaSpire PEEK’s low coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE) helps to ensure strong dimensional stability and tight tolerances. PEEK roller bearings are also more durable than those made of competing materials like stainless steel.

The roller bearing can be employed in high-heat environments up to 464 degrees Fahrenheit relative thermal index (RTI). In addition, the material’s corrosion resistance allows for smooth rotation in moderate acid-alkali environments. The PEEK roller bearings are available in sizes of 26 mm/1.0 in. (inner diam. 10 mm/0.39 in.) by 8 mm/0.31 in. to 72 mm/2.83 in. (inner diam. 35 mm/1.38 in.) by 17 mm/0.67 in.
