When it comes to chemical security the Department of Homeland Security isn't just about CFATS and mandates. The department also has a Chemical Sector-Specific Agency (SSA), within the Office of Infrastructure Protection's SSA Executive Management Office. This group works with the chemical sector to develop voluntary programs and materials to help chemical facilities and businesses increase and maintain safety and security measures. The resources available include:
Web-Based Chemical Security Awareness Training - An interactive free tool to develop awareness about security and safety. It is a training module designed for all facility employees - even those not involved in security and safety. At the end of the program the participant is awarded a certificate of completion.
Chemical Sector Explosive Threat Awareness Training Program (CSETAT) - A series of one day training session for chemical facility security officers across the nation. This training focuses on improvised explosive devices.
Voluntary Chemical Assessment Tool (VCAT) - This is a secure, web-based application and self-assessment tool. It was designed by the chemical industry to allow facilities to determine risks and problem areas.
Security Seminar & Exercise Series for Chemical Industry Stakeholders - a program to help increase information sharing between the industry and local emergency response teams.
Chemical Sector Security Summit - This annual event is co-hosted by Chemical SSA and the Chemical Sector Coordinating Council (SCC). It provides on-going education and information sharing throughout the industry.
