Company recognized for completion of first hydrogen fueling station for AC Transit.

The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) presented its Environmental Excellence Award to Linde North America in recognition of its completion of the first hydrogen fueling station for AC Transit, a transit bus operator in the Bay Area of California.

Linde’s newest hydrogen fueling station has begun operating at AC Transit’s Emeryville, Calif., municipal bus depot, fueling 12 fuel cell buses and dozens of passenger cars each day. The AC Transit project is the largest hydrogen bus fueling station in the U.S. and has proven the commercial viability of hydrogen as a clean fuel.

The Emeryville station is one of two Linde is supplying to AC Transit. The second, located at the Oakland operating division, is expected to begin operating in 2013. Both are part of AC Transit’s HyRoad project, which seeks to demonstrate the commercial viability of hydrogen fuel cell technology for the public transport industry.

CGA president Michael Tiller congratulated Linde on the award, saying the company’s innovative hydrogen fueling technology is an advancement that will have “a long-term positive effect on the environment.”
