Industry Groups Support Measure To Delay Ozone Rule

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, the American Petroleum Institute and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce send letter to Congress seeking delay in implementation of EPA ground-level ozone standard.

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, the American Petroleum Institute and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are part of more than 200 industry groups supporting a measure to delay implementation of the EPA ground-level ozone standard, according to an article from Morning Consult.  The groups recently sent a letter to Congress in support of the measure, H.R. 4775, which would prevent states from having to implement two ozone standards at once. According to the article, “the EPA didn’t publish the regulations for the 2008 National Ambient Air Quality Standards until early 2015, but published revised standards in October 2015 after states began implementing the previous standards.”

In the letter, the groups express concerns that trying to implement the new standards on top of earlier ones that are already in progress will cause economic harm. A coalition of environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and Earthjustice, has come out in opposition to the proposed measure.
