Death of Justice Scalia prompts company to settle class action lawsuit.
Prompted by the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, The Dow Chemical company has settled a price fixing case, according to an article at CNN Money. The company will pay $835 million after appealing a jury’s $1.1 billion judgment in the class action lawsuit.
Dow was appealing the original verdict all the way to the Supreme Court but no longer felt it could win after Justice Scalia’s death on February 13, according to the article. The lawsuit alleged that Dow and other urethane makers conspired to fix prices between 1999 and 2004. While the other defendants settled, the case against Dow went to a jury trial.
