The American Chemical Society (ACS) congratulates Reps. John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Dan Lipinski, Ph.D., (D-IL) on the launch of the bipartisan Congressional Chemistry Caucus. ACS, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) worked with the congressmen to establish the caucus, which will help inform members of Congress, their staffs and the public about chemistry's benefits for society and the economy.

Reps. Moolenaar and Lipinski, caucus co-chairs, serve on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Moolenaar holds a degree in chemistry, while Lipinski has a degree in mechanical engineering.

"We pledge to work with our colleagues in the chemistry enterprise and members of the caucus to advance responsible and balanced policy to help facilitate the growth of the chemistry enterprise and boost investment in federal research and development, foster innovation, improve STEM education, facilitate advanced manufacturing and protect the environment," says ACS Executive Director and CEO Thomas Connelly Jr., Ph.D. "Chemistry is the central science that is unlocking solutions to global challenges and our members are those global solution providers."

ACC CEO Calvin M. Dooley and NACD President Eric R. Byer joined the congressmen and Connelly at the launch event, which took place on April 27 at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
