Railroad giant CSX is set to purchase a Tampa chemical trucking company, a deal expected to spawn an expansive rails-to-roadway chemical distribution network across North America, according to an article from the Tampa Bay Times. Quality Carriers, with a fleet of 2,500 drivers and more than 100 hubs and terminals, reportedly operates North America’s largest shipping network for bulk liquid chemicals.
According to the article, CSX reported $2.3 billion in revenue from its chemical transportation business last year, the most of any sector. The deal is expected to close in late summer or early fall.
