Officers investigate unplanned flaring at Mosmorran plant.

Officers from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) are investigating unplanned flaring at a chemical plant at Mosmorran operated by ExxonMobil, according to an article from BBC. Controlled flaring is a safety measure but it reportedly causes noise and light disturbances.

According to the article, Chris Dailly, SEPA's head of environmental performance, notes that while limited, controlled flaring is an authorized and important safety feature at industrial sites, it is occurring too often at Mossmorran and significantly impacting the community. ExxonMobil issued an apology, reportedly blaming a "process interruption" for the elevated flare, and said they would work to minimize disruption to neighbors.
