Scholarly publishers are joining forces to fast-track review of COVID-19 studies.

A group of scientific publishers and scholarly organizations are joining forces to help review and publish an onslaught of COVID-19 research studies as quickly as possible, according to an article from ChemistryWorld. The ambitious initiative reportedly aims to speed up the peer review process while ensuring the scientific rigor and reproducibility.

More than 1,000 researchers from 70 countries signed up to be a part of a “rapid reviewer list” after the coalition of publishers behind the project put out a call for volunteer reviewers with the appropriate expertise, according to the article. The number of non-peer-reviewed articles on COVID-19 has soared since the beginning of the year and their dissemination across different platforms has reportedly made it difficult to filter out reliable information.
