Operators from oil and gas company Mol Group took top honors over Neste in Napco’s 2017 Operator World Cup finals held in Houston on February 8. Napcon, which provides offerings for production optimization and operator training in the process industry, launched the competition last year.
Participants qualified for the Operator World Cup by playing the Napcon Games Distiller online at the company’s website. The game was developed to train operators on basic distillation process in an oil refinery. Mol Group and Neste top operators made their way to the finals after a series of preliminary rounds in London, Houston, Dubai and Helsinki in August. The winners were crowned during the Operational Excellence and Risk Management Summit in Houston. The final two teams consisted of three players whose joint result was counted as the team result.
"The work of the operators is very demanding and it is good to be able to give them the credit that belongs to them,” says Mika Neffling, sales manager for Napcon Games. “Controlling production is a highly responsible task and training the operators well is very important risk management. There is no room for mistakes in the process industry.”
