Vermont Governor Phil Scott signs an executive order forming the Interagency Committee on Chemical Management, according to an article from the Bennington Banner. Scott’s order notes that the state currently doesn't have the necessary information to properly respond to emergencies and health threats posed by chemicals in use in Vermont industries.
Scott’s executive order is based on recommendations from a previous toxic chemicals working group, which were part of a proposed bill that failed earlier in the year. According to the article, the panel will recommend ways to improve record keeping, evaluate chemical inventories in the state, identify risks and reduction strategies, and recommend potential legislative or regulatory fixes.
